Catwalk season has just come to a close, so what better time to do a round up of the top trends as seen on the runway.
Spring Summer '22 Catwalks were clearly a post pandemic breath of fresh air. Although there were still hints of the traditional Zoom call attire we have gotten used to, there was also a touch of escapism displayed with elegance and extravagance.
The Statement Mini Dress

The theme was Mini Dresses, with maximum impact. Brands such as Prabal Gurung and Valentino took the mini dress to the next level by making the length super short and the shape super exaggerated.
Textured Fabrics and vibrant prints are essential here, adding drama to the silhouette. Done in the right way this can create a really unique yet timeless dress, as illustrated by Lanvin.
This is definitely not for the faint hearted, but oh my gosh - what a look!!
Terracotta Tones

Rich burnt tones have been filtered down to the High Street for the past couple of seasons now but this trend is here to stay. It is commercial winner which works well on a multitude of skin tones and body shapes.
Palmer Harding brought newness to this trend by colour blocking back to black and adding volume with twists and gathers to her styles - whilst Hermes styled the range with head to toe neutrals and tonal prints.
The Handcraft Look

Crochet is the perfect summer trend. Alberta Ferretti focused heavily on the handcraft look in the SS22 collection, showing how this trend can be worn day to day rather than just on holiday, bringing a whole new, fresh take on the crochet look.
This is a great trend to go for in its entirety or to just hint at, as Chloe have done with the full length, knotted top.
To make the most of this trend, pick a neutral palette as this can be a real hero piece that can be a part of your wardrobe for years.
The New Romantics

There was a real air of romanticism on the catwalks this season, and a true step change from the leisurewear we have gotten used to over the past 18 months.
Dresses were the stand out styles. Styling was extrovert with voluminous frills playing an key role, as highlighted here by Zimmermann.
The take away prints were digitised botanicals, whilst fabrics were centred around texture and luxe soft touch details.
“What we recognized early on was that women would crave lightness and beauty in moments of unease, and that as the pandemic began to end, the demand for expressive, bold, “re-emerging” fashion would be greater than ever.” - Zimmermann
All Black Everything

Head to Toe black - timeless, effective and commercial. This is a trend that can really do no wrong.
A great way to add excitement with this look is by using tone on tone details such as embroidery or embellishment on a sheer fabric, as shown by Louis Vuitton and Michael Kors.
At a time when we are taking real consideration over the clothes we purchase, black is a great go to for fashion with real longevity.
